Industrial Valve Enquiry Checklist
A useful valve enquiry includes the fluid, valve function, operating and design conditions, size, body and seal materials, connection standard, actuation and quantity. Size alone does not identify a suitable replacement valve.
Start with the valve function
State whether the valve is needed for isolation, throttling, non-return service or another duty. Ball, butterfly, globe and check valves serve different functions; selection should follow the application and engineering specification.
State the service conditions
Provide the fluid, concentration where relevant, operating pressure and temperature, and design limits. Note solids, cleaning chemicals and hygienic requirements. Do not select pressure suitability from the valve name or a catalogue image alone.
Identify the end connections
For threaded valves, state the thread standard. For flanged valves, provide flange standard, pressure designation, face type and dimensions where necessary. For hygienic or welded ends, state the tube or pipe standard and wall thickness.
Confirm operation and documentation
State manual or actuated operation. For actuators, specify the power or air supply, control signal and required fail position. Include inspection, material certificate and other project documentation requirements.
Send a complete requirement
Attach an existing nameplate photograph or datasheet when replacing a valve. List each item with quantity and delivery location. M.S. Associates will confirm the offered specification, availability, delivery and commercial terms in its quotation.
